UK Standards organisations and UK government agencies

  • BSI Group
    BSI’s home page for information on the UK’s national standards organization.
  • Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR)
    The BERR's home page for Standards and Technical Regulations.
  • National Measurement System
    Provides measurement standards and calibration facilities to the UK. They enable businesses and public authorities to make accurate measurements that are nationally and internationally accepted.
  • Consumer Direct
    Consumer Direct – a telephone and online advice and information service for consumers in Great Britain, supported by the Department of Trade and Industry.
  • Food Standards Agency
    The Food Standards Agency site including information on food labelling.
  • Trading Standards
    Trading Standards Central is the web site of the Trading Standards Institute that provides information for consumers and businesses, schools, advice and information centres, community organisations, local councils, business support agencies and trade associations.
  • Building Regulations
    The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister issues guidance on building regulations and fire safety. For more information on the regulations and on local procedures look at your local authority's web site.
  • Info4education.com
    Info4education.com is a reference source for students, graduates, teachers, lecturers and other academic professionals needing online access to British Standards, legislation and other guidance information related to construction, health and safety, and pharmaceuticals.

International Standards

  • ISO - The International Organization for Standardization
    ISO is a worldwide federation of national Standards bodies from 140 countries including BSI. It promotes the development of standardization to aid the international exchange of goods and services. ISO's work results in international agreements, which are published as International Standards. An example is ISO 9000 – the family of Standards for Quality Management. It can also be expressed as BS EN ISO 9000.
  • IEC - The International Electrotechnical Commission
    IEC is the global organization that prepares and publishes international Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.
