Designing for the disabled

Disability can take many forms: minor or severe, temporary or permanent. People with some sort of disability, and the elderly, make up a significant part of the population, so it's important that disability is considered when designing buildings and products - for example, how will someone in a wheelchair get into a building? Or how will a visually impaired person use a new product? Standards support recent legislation to help to make sure buildings and products are suitable for disabled people. Find out more about them in this section.
