Activity sheet 1 – Mystery package
Draw the mystery package in the space below.
What do you think the contents of the mystery package might be? Brainstorm ideas with your partner and give reasons for your choices.
Now that you have decided on what the contents might be, you need to rate the mystery package.
Below are some things you, as manufacturer of this product, may need to think about when designing packaging. All types of packaging need to reach certain Standards for safety and suitability.
- Size: is it suitable to contain the product? Can it be easily stored?
- Shape: is it safe and easy to use?
- Material: is it durable (will last for a long time) and non-toxic? Will it contain your product properly (for example liquid might soak through card)?
- Printing on labels: how well does it describe the contents? Does it show health warnings (nut allergies, age recommendations)? Can you read all the text?
- How will you make sure that your product will not be damaged when being moved around?
- Does your package need any special features? Clear window display so that people can see inside? Wax-coated board for ice cream? Foil seal to keep it fresh?
- Can your packaging be recycled?
On a scale of 1 – 10, how suitable is the packaging?
