Activity sheet 3 – Build a paper bridge
Materials
- Sheets of A4 paper
- Two school desks alongside each other
- A few paper weights
- A ruler
- 20 Unifix cubes, toy cars
Construction steps
- Pull the desks together, keeping a 20cm distance.
- Lay the sheet of paper across the gap.
- Place Unifix cubes on your paper bridge. How many cubes can your bridge support?
- Continue step 3 until the bridge collapses.
- Evaluate your bridge. Can you improve your bridge?
Record how many Unifix cubes your bridge could support before it collapsed. How could you improve your bridge? Can toy cars now cross your bridge?
