Joints / Seams

French Seam

Seams and joints are tested as part of the whole toy. If a seam splits, the fillings can become a danger as a child may choke on them.

If a joint comes apart not only could there be a small mechanism to swallow, but also the part of the toy could be small enough to choke a young child.

Hand Sewn

Soft toys that contain wires, likely to be bent for stiffening or retention of shape, must not break and produce sharp points or protrude through the covering material.

Record the joint or seam you wish to use and try the following tests.

Plain Seam

Tests

Soft toys which have seams and are jointed are subject to torque test , tension test , and soaking tests
