Children’s transport Standards
British Standards do not tend to set Standards for design. More often the Standard specifies the performance requirements once a product has been designed. So for example a pushchair can look like anything you want it to be but the Standard sets the performance tests and is mentioned in government legislation covering children's transport.
Here are examples of some British Standards covering the area of children's transport design – car seats, pushchairs and prams:
Car seats:
- BS AU 202b Specification for rearward facing restraint systems for infants, for use in road vehicles.
- BS 3254-2 Specification for restraining devices for children.
Prams:
- BS 7409 Specification for safety requirements for wheeled child conveyances. There is a Kitemark scheme for this product.
Pushchairs:
- BS 1877-10 Specification for mattresses and bumpers for children's cots, perambulators and similar domestic articles.
- BS 7409 Specification for safety requirements for wheeled child conveyances.
- BS 6684 Specification for safety harnesses.
