Bridges and tunnels
All bridges sway. To prevent them from getting wobbly, however, and for a range of other safety and construction issues we need Standards for all the different kinds of bridges that can be built.
Standards are fundamental to bridge design. Apart from safety issues, they set out a design’s adequacy or how much a bridge can carry.
